About the developer
AirframeDB is developed through Rohsam Inc., alongside FFB-Bridge and FFB-Probe.
I started building FFB-Bridge as a fairly simple project. As I added features, I needed to understand more about the differences between the simulators. That led to research into the aircraft included with each sim, then third-party aircraft, then custom integrations.
That work kept taking me beyond simulator documentation. I needed to understand how the real aircraft behaved, how it was represented in the sim, and what pilots who had flown it had to say. The research brought together aircraft manuals, developer documentation and pilot accounts.
Some of the results became the Aircraft Library on FFB-Bridge.com. But the research collection covered many more aircraft than appeared there. I thought that information could be useful to the wider simming community, so I decided to build a separate home for it: AirframeDB.
A growing catalogue
The aim is a living, growing catalogue of all simulator aircraft, from those included with the simulator to third-party add-ons. It starts with Microsoft Flight Simulator and X-Plane, with room to expand into other sims.
The catalogue brings together aircraft background, photographs, pilot accounts and developer documentation. Coverage varies by aircraft. More aircraft, richer information and useful resources will be added over time, with community feedback and corrections helping the catalogue improve.
Sources and accuracy
Technical identifiers and documented interfaces are checked against their sources. Aircraft background and pilot accounts are attributed, with uncertainty and conflicting information identified where relevant.
Documentation describes a particular aircraft, simulator or add-on version. It does not establish the behaviour of every implementation. Follow the original source for its full context and current information.
A reference for simmers.
AirframeDB links to manuals from their publishers and distinguishes simulator implementations from real-aircraft information. It does not provide original flight tutorials or real-world flight training.
