Meet AKD Studio GLF650 / G650 family reference
The G650 introduced fly-by-wire control to Gulfstream’s large-cabin business-jet line. Gulfstream’s September 2012 certification announcement describes a redundant electronic flight-control system developed through extensive testing. Its purpose-built long-range airframe and automated flight deck sit in a different development generation from the G550.
History & design
A new Gulfstream generation
Gulfstream announced the G650 in March 2008 after several years of design work. It rolled out in September 2009 and first flew on 25 November. Seven test aircraft accumulated more than 3,889 hours before FAA type certification on 7 September 2012. The manufacturer expected the first completed customer aircraft before the end of that year.
The programme combined a larger cabin with three-axis fly-by-wire controls. This is the original G650 generation; later extended-range variants and newer Gulfstream models should not supply its specifications by default.

Control laws between the pilot and the surfaces
Gulfstream describes a redundant three-axis fly-by-wire system with envelope protection and a dedicated backup flight-control computer. The pilot's control input therefore passes through an electronic control system. That architecture explains why a mechanical-cable force model is not the appropriate description of the G650, without implying that the simulator recreates every control law.
