History & design
The 17-series joins an established family
The FAA’s model record places the 17-30 approval on 23 September 1966, following earlier 14-series Bellancas. The turbocharged 17-31TC was approved on 20 February 1969, followed by the 17-31 on 29 April 1969.

A continuing type-design record
The same certificate records ownership passing through Viking Aviation and Bellanca in 1982, Alexandria Aircraft in 2002, and Bellanca Aircraft in 2024. It also lists engines and limitations by model and serial range, so a Super Viking’s equipment cannot be inferred solely from the family name.
