HOW IT CAME TO BE

History & design

A trainer built beyond Germany

The German Jungmann design also became a Czechoslovak-built trainer. Aero records two hundred Bü 131s produced from late 1939 to September 1940, followed by another 240 after the war before production ended in 1949.

A long Spanish training career

CASA built five hundred licensed 1.131 aircraft in Spain. The RAF Museum’s example comes from the last batch of fifty, built around 1956, and entered Spanish Air Force service in February 1958.

The preserved aircraft is a CASA version

E.3B-521 later served with the aircrew-selection unit at Los Alcázares and was withdrawn in 1984. The final Spanish military use of the type ended in 1985; the museum received this aircraft in 1997. This history belongs to the Spanish-built branch, not to an original German airframe.
