HOW IT CAME TO BE

History & design

The Navion beneath the twin conversion

The Camair 480 Twin Navion belongs to the post-war Navion family. Sierra Hotel Aero's history traces the original single-engine design to North American Aviation at the end of the Second World War and then to Ryan production. Its civil touring role also attracted military liaison use.

Recreating the twin

Hangar Studios 713 describes its Camair project as following work on an owner's Ryan Navion. The twin model adds two 240 hp Continental O-470B engines and its own nacelles, fuel controls and cockpit arrangements. The developer credits feedback from a Navion owner, but that relationship is not evidence of measured Camair stick forces.
