History & design
Returning to the two-seat market
Cessna developed the 150 from its earlier 120/140 family, adopting tricycle landing gear and a Continental O-200 engine. The high-wing, side-by-side prototype first flew in September 1957 and received its FAA type certificate in July 1958.

Training and touring branches
The 150 range included Standard/Trainer, Commuter and A150 Aerobat versions. The Smithsonian highlights the lower nose, improved forward visibility and steerable nosewheel as practical benefits for students learning to taxi, take off and land.
