History & design
A midsize Citation enters service
The original Citation Sovereign entered service in 2004. Cessna’s later retrospective emphasised its long cabin and ability to operate from comparatively short runways, giving the design a role beyond long-range business travel alone.

The next version changes the wing and cockpit
The first production aircraft of the updated Sovereign rolled out in March 2013 after an announcement the previous autumn. Winglets, Garmin G5000 avionics and autothrottles accompanied cabin-system changes. Those additions should not be read back into every earlier Sovereign.
