Meet Aero Commander 690B Turbo Commander

The 690B belongs to the turbine-powered Twin Commander series. The type holder’s history traces that branch to the 680T, which paired a pressurized airframe with TPE331 engines. The subsequent 690 models retained a separate identity from the piston Shrike and from the later JetProp Commander line.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

History & design

The 690B within the turbine Commander family

The 690B first flew in 1976 as a development of the 690A. Twin Commander records increased weight ratings, two engine options and cabin changes that included more baggage space. These changes put the model within an evolving turbine family rather than making it interchangeable with the earlier piston Commanders or later JetProp designs. The selected 690B reference keeps its own dimensions, powerplant and weight limits.

UNDER THE SKIN

Systems & details

A turbine and propeller system with several operating regimes

The type-owner specification describes single-shaft turboprops with integral gearboxes and propellers capable of feathering and reverse pitch. Those features distinguish engine power, propeller governing and ground handling. They are physical configuration evidence, not confirmation that an add-on exposes every state through simulator telemetry.
