History & design
A community continuation of the DG-808S
TouchingCloud identifies this DG-808S as a community project developed from Flight Simulator X assets, with separate contributors for flight dynamics, instruments and textures. Its 18-metre competition-glider basis was extended in the simulation with a retractable jet, alongside winch and aerotow options through Kinetic Assistant. The jet-powered virtual configuration should therefore be distinguished from the unpowered DG-808S when comparing operating descriptions.

Systems & details
Controls and equipment
The water-rudder toggle operates tow release. Light controls can select instrument modes. These bindings describe the TouchingCloud implementation.
Soaring instruments alongside the optional jet
TouchingCloud’s virtual DG-808S includes a retractable jet quoted at 150 pounds of thrust, while the navigation display and Cambridge variometer support soaring tasks. Ian Lewis’s instrument documentation describes automatic cruise/climb switching and separate controls for selecting a waypoint and changing instrument modes. Winch and aerotow are provided through Kinetic Assistant. This mix makes the optional propulsion and the soaring instruments separate parts of the experience; using the jet is not required for every flight.
