Meet Embraer / Neiva EMB-200 Ipanema

The Ipanema is Embraer’s agricultural-aircraft family, built around low-altitude application work. Embraer’s historical chronology records an export of ten EMB-200s to Uruguay in 1975 alongside five Bandeirantes. Neiva later became part of Embraer, linking the names used across the programme’s development and production history.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

History & design

An agricultural aircraft designed in Brazil

The Ministry of Agriculture commissioned the work that became the Ipanema in 1969. Embraer took over the project after its creation that year, and the EMB 200 prototype flew on 31 July 1970. Approval followed in December 1971; the first delivery in February 1972 went into coffee-crop spraying near Catanduva.

The early design used a 260 hp engine and a 580-litre hopper between pilot and engine. The 200A brought larger wheels and a constant-speed propeller; the later 201 increased power and hopper size. These changes matter when identifying the model rather than treating the Ipanema name as one unchanged aircraft.

Ethanol belongs to a later generation

The ethanol-powered EMB 202A received its certification in October 2004. That milestone belongs to a later member of the family, decades after the original EMB 200. It should not be used to describe the fuel or engine installation of BRsimDesigns' original-model rendition.
