Aircraft and simulator background

The Tutor's manual control runs use push-pull rods with mass and aerodynamic balance. A spring interconnect links rudder and aileron functions, while a geared elevator trim tab provides in-flight pitch trim. The aileron and rudder tabs are adjusted on the ground.

Control balance and trim tabs

The AFM describes push-pull primary-control rods, mass and aerodynamic balancing, and a spring interconnect between rudder and ailerons. The geared elevator trim tab is distinct from the aileron and rudder tabs, which are ground-adjusted.

Meet Grob Tutor T.1

The Tutor's manual control runs use push-pull rods with mass and aerodynamic balance. A spring interconnect links rudder and aileron functions, while a geared elevator trim tab provides in-flight pitch trim. The aileron and rudder tabs are adjusted on the ground.

IRIS's aircraft has fixed tricycle gear and electric screw-jack flaps with achieved-position indication. Its stall warning is audible. The archived AFM V2.1 of January 2022 and the store's V2.3.7 product label identify different document versions.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

History & design

From sport aircraft to military training

The Grob G 115 first flew in 1985 as an aerobatic sport aircraft. The RAF’s G 115E Tutor replaced the Bulldog in university and air-experience flying, combining a civilian-maintained fleet with military instruction.

The Tutor name returns

The Central Flying School received Tutors in 1999. Named after the earlier Avro Tutor, the aircraft became part of elementary training and pilot assessment, alongside university and cadet flying. The RAF later moved the elementary training role toward the Grob Prefect.
