Introduction

Aircraft and configuration

SwissMilSim's Morane D-3801 has a pitch-stabiliser trim control on the left console. The original roll and yaw adjustments were ground-only. The simulation includes a flap interlock: with the landing gear retracted, the flaps are locked unless the override is used.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

History & design

Switzerland developed its own Morane

Swiss interest in the French MS.406 led first to licensed D-3800 production and then to the improved D-3801. Swissmilsim's historical manual describes the more powerful Swiss-built Hispano-Suiza 12Y-51 and a fixed radiator with a regulating flap, replacing the earlier retractable arrangement.

After wartime neutrality patrols and interceptions, the Moranes moved into ground attack and advanced training as jets entered Swiss service. The manual places the final Morane pilot-training course in 1959. That career explains why a Swiss D-3801 should not simply be treated as an identically equipped French MS.406.

UNDER THE SKIN

Systems & details

Cooling, power and aircraft identity

The D-3801's radiator installation and Swiss engine distinguish it from the earlier French and Swiss variants described in the same manual. Cockpit and performance references must follow the D-3801 section; the manual's preceding MS.406 history is not a substitute for its operating data.
