HOW IT CAME TO BE

History & design

Moving from biplanes to a low-wing trainer

De Havilland designed the DH.94 to replace the older biplane Moth line with a wooden low-wing aircraft. Geoffrey de Havilland flew the prototype on 22 June 1937. Open cockpits were standard, with enclosed Coupe versions later offering a different cabin arrangement. Folding wings reduced its hangar footprint.
