Meet Vought F4U / Goodyear FG-1 Corsair
The Corsair’s inverted gull wing and large radial engine give it one of the most recognizable fighter outlines of the Second World War. Blackbird’s FG-1D rendition is based on Goodyear-built aircraft BuNo. 92132, which arrived too late for wartime service and later served in the naval reserve. The developer recounts its subsequent television work and restoration by the Tri-State Warbird Museum.

One airframe’s path into the simulator
Blackbird names BuNo. 92132 as the reference FG-1D and traces its reserve-service, television and museum chapters. That individual history explains the specific rendition. The Corsair family also includes Vought and other license-built variants with their own details.

Tabs, flap relief and gear as a drag device
The guide describes three-axis trim tabs, gated flap extension and pressure relief. It separately discusses main-gear extension as a dive brake. Its gear-limit descriptions differ between the limitations table and dive-brake discussion; the two passages retain that conflict rather than establishing one combined operating threshold.

Managing a carrier fighter’s systems
Blackbird’s guide models the radial engine’s supercharger and water-injection system alongside the Corsair’s electrical and cockpit-lighting systems. The release guide also distinguishes animated controls from functions implemented in MSFS 2020: some radio, oxygen and weapons interactions were visual only. Wing folding includes a simulator-specific throttle restriction. These details make the manual’s edition and date material when comparing the virtual FG-1D with a historical cockpit or a later product update.
