The company and its aircraft
Alliott Verdon Roe founded Avro in Manchester in 1910. The company’s designs included the 504, Lancaster and Vulcan, and it remained closely associated with manufacturing sites in Lancashire. Avro became part of Hawker Siddeley in 1963, while its name continued to appear on later aircraft.
