AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURER

Lockheed

An American aerospace manufacturer whose aircraft preceded today’s Lockheed Martin.

The company and its aircraft

Lockheed Corporation was founded in 1926 and merged with Martin Marietta in 1995. Its founder, Allan Lockheed, had previously operated a separate company using the Loughead spelling. The historical Lockheed identity connects aircraft such as the TriStar, Hercules and SR-71 without treating their very different roles as one family.
