The company and its aircraft
Ted Smith Aircraft Company originally built the Aerostar design. Piper acquired the programme in 1978 and continued production under the PA-60 designation. The manufacturer relationship connects the Ted Smith and Piper names without turning the Aerostar into a member of Piper’s unrelated twin-engine families.
