HOW IT CAME TO BE

History & design

A fighter programme enters wartime service

The MB 150 prototype first flew on 4 May 1937. The family was selected for accelerated French fighter re-equipment in 1938, but incomplete early deliveries delayed operational readiness; only one squadron had begun flying the MB 152 by September 1939.

Sturdy construction with operational compromises

Dassault’s account describes the MB 152 as robust and a stable firing platform, while noting limited range, insufficient engine power and weaker manoeuvrability at altitude. It was widely used during the 1940 campaign, with the improved MB 155 only reaching small-scale production.
