History & design
From wartime service to the mail routes
The Breguet XIV entered combat in September 1917 as a reconnaissance aircraft and bomber. Its robust airframe and 300 hp Renault engine belong to that military origin, before the type became familiar as a civil mailplane. The Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace records production continuing until 1926, with roughly 8,000 aircraft built and operation in fourteen countries.

A second career carrying people and post
After the war, the XIV found civil work carrying mail and freight. That transition explains the contrast between a First World War design and the mail-route identity of the aircraft in this library. Equipment on a civilian conversion need not reproduce the bomber’s installation; the selected simulator package documents its own controls separately.
