History & design
The aircraft behind a new manufacturer
The Bandeirante project was authorised in 1965 at Brazil’s aeronautical technical centre. Its first flight on 22 October 1968 preceded Embraer’s creation in 1969; the new company provided an industrial basis for developing and producing the design.

From Brazilian service to regional exports
The first production delivery to the Brazilian Air Force took place on 9 February 1973. Civil and military versions followed, with a military export to Uruguay in 1975 and Air Littoral becoming the first overseas civil customer in 1977.
