Aircraft background

Aircraft and simulator background

The Scrapyard Monster is Flying Fries' fictional aircraft, offered in bush and sea forms. Its manual describes an adapted Cosworth-derived V12 concept and deliberately exaggerated performance, alongside a steering-wheel-like pitch and roll control.

An invented aircraft with two operating forms

The manual presents the Scrapyard Monster as a collection of deliberately extravagant design ideas. Bush and Sea versions adapt that fictional vehicle to different operating surfaces. Its V12 installation and performance belong to the simulator design.

Controls for air and water

The steering-wheel control operates pitch and roll, with a tab supplying pitch trim. Hydraulic wing flaps have mechanical automatic ground retraction. Sea water rudders are assigned to the parking-brake binding and work with the landing gear up.

Meet Flying Fries Scrapyard Monster

The Scrapyard Monster is Flying Fries' fictional aircraft, offered in bush and sea forms. Its manual describes an adapted Cosworth-derived V12 concept and deliberately exaggerated performance, alongside a steering-wheel-like pitch and roll control.

Pitch trim acts through a tab. Hydraulic wing flaps have mechanical automatic ground retraction; in the Sea version, water rudders use the parking-brake binding and require the gear to be raised.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

History & design

A deliberate departure from conventional aircraft

Flying Fries describes the Scrapyard Monster as a collection of extravagant design ideas: a vehicle that can be flown gently as a bush aircraft or used for deliberately implausible performance. Bush and Sea forms extend the same fictional machine to different operating surfaces.

Manual v2.4, presentation, page 5

A road-car engine reimagined for the simulator

The developer took inspiration from Cosworth’s RA V12 and assigned the virtual aircraft a 1,160 hp installation with propeller reduction gearing. That is part of the Monster’s imagined engineering, not evidence that such an aeroplane was built or flight-tested.
