History & design
An expanded Constellation
The Model 1049 Super Constellation emerged in 1951 from the Constellation transport family. The original aircraft had served the military as the C-69 before entering commercial service in 1946; the Super Constellation developed the concept further for passenger operations.

Airliners and special missions
The broader Constellation family also became military transports and airborne early-warning aircraft. Commercial production ended in 1959 as airlines moved toward jets, while specialised and freight uses prolonged the family’s working life.
