History & design
Folding wings for carrier storage
The Mk.III brought a two-part folding-wing arrangement to the Mk.IIc lineage. Hinges allowed the main outer panels to rise and the tips to fold, reducing storage space aboard carriers. Merlin 55 or 55M installations identified different Mk.III developments.
