FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

Thranda’s newer Kodiak includes two undercarriage types

The native X-Plane 12 package includes landplane and amphibian models, Timberline and executive interiors, and selectable equipment such as skis, tyres and a cargo pod. Its G1000 installation offers a choice between bezel autopilot controls and an S-TEC 55 interface. The menus also provide individual passenger and cargo loading.

Lionheart Quickie Q200 · Lionheart Creations · MSFS 2020

Fuel and cockpit equipment

Lionheart describes a 5 US gal header tank feeding the engine and a 15 US gal tank under the seats. An electric pump transfers fuel to the header tank. Its simulator cockpit includes GNS navigation equipment and a basic autopilot for flight assistance.

Quickie Q200 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Quickie Q200

The Quickie Q200 uses two lifting wings arranged in tandem. Its elevators are on the forward wing and its ailerons on the rear wing. The reflexor changes the rear ailerons' neutral position, giving the pilot a control distinct from conventional wing flaps.

Lionheart's rendition has independent elevator and aileron trims. The developer describes a two-seat fiberglass and Kevlar homebuilt with a 100 hp Continental O-200, alongside simulator navigation and autopilot equipment.

Robinson R22 Beta II · Laminar Research · X-Plane 12

The cockpit includes Laminar’s GNS530

The guide describes Laminar’s interpretation of the Garmin 530 and a separate transponder. The centre console places cyclic friction, right trim, carburettor heat and fuel controls within another illustrated area. These diagrams help locate controls before using the manual’s simulator checklists.

Direct controls and a mechanical trim aid

The R22 overview describes direct, unboosted controls. Its right-trim system uses a pulley and spring arrangement to relieve cyclic load associated with faster flight. This is a mechanical trim aid, distinct from the autopilot or stability systems described for larger helicopters.

Cowan’s panel choices and assistance belong to its package

The v2.3 product description lists analogue, G530 and GTN panel options, plus a custom SAS and autopilot with force-trim release. Those are Cowan’s chosen simulator features and differ from the basic mechanical trim described in the Laminar guide. Optional GTN integrations have their own dependencies.

Robinson R22 Beta II ↗Research-based aircraft background

Robinson R22 Beta II

Frank Robinson developed the R22 as a light two-seat helicopter, with production beginning in 1979. Its compact cabin, exposed tail boom and two-bladed rotor became familiar in training and private use.

The Beta II uses unboosted controls and trim arrangements described in its simulator manual. The cyclic trim cord relieves control force; it is not an autopilot.

The add-on’s SAS and autopilot have their own scope

Cowan describes force-trim release, attitude, heading, speed and altitude modes, plus navigation and vertical guidance. The product targets MSFS 2020 with stated MSFS 2024 compatibility. It is a separate package from the R66 bundled with MSFS 2024; a dedicated new edition was still described as forthcoming.

Ryan Navion ↗Research-based aircraft background

Ryan Navion

The Navion configurations described by Hangar Studios 713 include hydraulic landing gear and flaps, with an emergency hand pump in the cockpit. A pitch-trim wheel, flap selector and gear handle give each system its own control.

The Super 260 rendition uses a 260 hp Continental IO-520 and KAP140 autopilot. The L-17B uses the 205 hp O-470-7; its included L-17D ski version has an inoperative gear system. These engine and undercarriage differences distinguish the package's represented variants.
