FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

Saab 17 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Saab 17

The Saab 17 began at ASJA before that company became part of Saab. A single radial engine powered the all-metal mid-wing reconnaissance and dive-bombing aircraft. Versions were fitted for land, winter and maritime operation, with different undercarriage arrangements and equipment.

Saab SF-37 Viggen ↗Research-based aircraft background

Saab SF-37 Viggen

The SF-37 is the reconnaissance member of Saab's Viggen family. Canards, retractable landing gear, one jet engine and a reversing system form the configuration represented by DeltaWing Simulations.

The X-Plane 12 product describes custom hydraulic handling, SPAK augmentation, a CK37 computer and autopilot functions.

Savoia-Marchetti S.55 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Savoia-Marchetti S.55

The S.55 carries its payload in two boat hulls joined by a broad wing. A centreline tractor-and-pusher engine installation sits above the wing, while twin booms support the tail.

The aircraft served military and commercial operators and became associated with long-distance formation flights. Its two hulls and overhead engines distinguish it from conventional single-hull flying boats.

Scaled Composites Pond Racer ↗Research-based aircraft background

Scaled Composites Pond Racer

Bob Pond commissioned Burt Rutan's Model 158 Pond Racer, built by Scaled Composites as an alternative to racing restored warbirds. The twin-boom composite aircraft used automobile-derived piston engines and appeared at Reno in 1991.

VSKYLABS' simulator product imagines a PT6A-powered development with a wider cross-country role. Its equipment and performance describe that hypothetical variant.

Scheibe SF-25 Falke ↗Research-based aircraft background

Scheibe SF-25 Falke

The SF-25 Falke combines a two-seat cockpit with a low wing and a fixed tractor propeller. Its design allows powered departures followed by soaring flight, with wing spoilers controlling the descent.

VSKYLABS models the SF-25C 2000 with a Limbach 2000L engine. The package includes central-wheel and conventional tailwheel arrangements, and the developer provides separate X-Plane 11 and 12 editions.
