FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

Trim and water configuration

The developer's release notes identify elevator trim and stick-mounted trim controls, together with a GMC307 autopilot. Changes to the float contact points, water rudder and flap drag affect different parts of the simulated aircraft: contact with the water, steering, and aerodynamic configuration.

Got Friends Experimental MXA

The Experimental MXA is a fictional light sport amphibian with geometry inspired by the Akoya. Got Friends presents its wheel and water configurations as parts of the same simulator design.

The cockpit includes a GMC307 autopilot, an electrical system and elevator-trim controls. Developer updates revised float contact points, water-rudder behaviour and flap drag, connecting the aircraft's water configuration to its simulated systems.

From light aircraft to turboprop racer

The developer's Vertigo release replaces the VL3-inspired aircraft's propulsion with an 850 hp PT6A-42A and a six-bladed constant-speed propeller. Its published 270 KIAS and 357 KTAS at FL200 example describes different speed measures. The release also lists 140-knot gear and 180-knot flap limits, whose applicability belongs to that software version.

Later simulator support

Got Friends' Vertigo v1.0.5 notes establish MSFS 2024 compatibility and changes to trim and flap indicators. The earlier release's Working Title G3X and autopilot dependencies have their own version context.

Got Friends Vertigo

Vertigo develops the VL3's outline into a simulator turboprop racer. Its developer describes a PT6A-42A producing 850 hp, a six-bladed constant-speed propeller and retractable landing gear. The aircraft is a modified simulator design with performance figures published for that rendition.

The original release material distinguishes indicated speed from true airspeed: its example pairs 270 KIAS with 357 KTAS at FL200. Later Got Friends notes record MSFS 2024 compatibility and revised trim and flap indications.

A museum replica helped shape the simulator’s Model Z

Microsoft says its team studied and scanned the Model Z replica at Seattle’s Museum of Flight. This identifies a development reference for the Carenado recreation.

The announced Z uses a fixed-pitch propeller

The release describes the Z with a Wasp Junior radial and a fixed-pitch two-blade propeller. The larger engine used in later historical record attempts is a different configuration.

Granville Gee Bee R2 / Z

Granville Brothers built the Gee Bee racers for speed competition. The Model R placed a large radial engine ahead of small wings and a cockpit set far aft in a short fuselage. Gee Bee takes its name from the initials of Granville Brothers.

The Model Z, R-1 and R-2 were separate racing designs. Modern replicas also differ from original racers; the photographs and simulator model labels identify the aircraft represented.
