FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II

The Phantom began as a US Navy aircraft and was adopted by the US Air Force, Marine Corps and export customers. Large intakes, upward-angled outer wing panels and downward-angled tailplanes distinguish its airframe.

Interceptor, strike and reconnaissance versions carried different engines, radar and cockpit equipment. National upgrades added further differences during the type's long service.

McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet

The F/A-18C is the single-seat member of the legacy Hornet C/D pair. NAVAIR describes the A–D family as a twin-engine aircraft for fighter and attack missions. The two-seat D, earlier A/B aircraft and later E/F Super Hornet have separate variant identities.

McDonnell Douglas KC-10 Extender

The KC-10 adapted the DC-10 wide-body trijet for military tanker work. It retained the broad fuselage and tail-mounted centre engine while adding refuelling equipment and military systems. US Air Force service ran from 1981 to 2024.

The Extender combined fuel transfer with passenger and cargo transport. The simulator documentation describes which tanker and cargo functions are modelled.
