FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

Set the load and cabin before the flight

A popup menu handles options, fuel and weight, including passengers and luggage. The developer describes interiors tied to the selected livery, windshield rain effects and an FMOD environment built using real Lycoming engine recordings. Switches, doors and other cockpit interactions have their own sounds.

Pipistrel Taurus M ↗Research-based aircraft background

Pipistrel Taurus M

Pipistrel's two-seat Taurus combines self-launching with gliding flight. The powerplant retracts into the airframe when no longer needed, alongside a long wing and side-by-side cockpit. Several powerplant developments exist in the family.

The Taurus M is the engine-powered version represented here. Its cockpit includes sailplane flap, airbrake and landing-gear controls.

Pipistrel Virus SW 121 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Pipistrel Virus SW 121

Pipistrel developed the Virus family in Slovenia around a lightweight high-wing airframe, fixed landing gear and enclosed side-by-side two-seat cockpit. Versions have been supplied under different light-aircraft categories and construction arrangements.

The SW 121 has its own wing, engine and cockpit configuration. The developer documents the equipment represented in the simulator.

Pitts Special ↗Research-based aircraft background

Pitts Special

Curtis Pitts's biplane first flew in 1944 and became established in competition aerobatics. Its short fuselage and closely stacked wings were developed through versions with different engines, seating and airframe details.

The S-1 is single-seat; the larger S-2 has tandem seats. Cockpit views, proportions and equipment differ between the two branches.

Progressive Aerodyne SeaRey ↗Research-based aircraft background

Progressive Aerodyne SeaRey

The SeaRey combines a strut-braced high wing with an enclosed two-seat cockpit and a boat-shaped hull. Its amphibious landing gear makes both water and runway operations part of the design. The engine sits above and behind the cabin, leaving a broad forward view.

FlightSim Studio’s SeaRey Elite comes in Light and Advanced editions. The Advanced edition adds homebuilt and experimental cockpit features, camping equipment, an anchor simulation and an interactive walkaround.

Republic P-47 Thunderbolt ↗Research-based aircraft background

Republic P-47 Thunderbolt

The Thunderbolt combined a powerful radial engine and eight .50-calibre machine guns in a fighter that also became a major ground-attack aircraft. The Smithsonian places it among the principal American fighters of the Second World War and records its ancestry through Republic’s earlier Seversky designs. The P-47D and the later P-47N retain that family name while representing different configurations.

Revolution Mini-500 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Revolution Mini-500

Dennis Fetters developed the single-seat Mini-500 as a homebuilt helicopter in the 1990s. The design has a compact cabin and light rotor system.

VSKYLABS models low rotor inertia and manual engine and rotor-speed management. The developer describes research with helicopter pilots and sound recorded from the aircraft as part of its development work.
