FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

Gear and ground handling

The developer manual provides 29 manual cranks for landing-gear operation and an alternative automatic handle animation. Tailwheel handling has authentic and simplified modes. Separate elevator and aileron trim dials are identified in the cockpit.

Navigation and compatibility updates

The F4F-4 v1.0.3 notes describe WTT support for GTN650 and autopilot, navigation and MSFS 2024 changes. The software's optional navigator is an add-on feature; the source's gun-camera removal also belongs to that release history.

Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat

Got Friends represents the F4F-4 Wildcat with pilot-operated elevator and aileron trim dials and hand-cranked landing gear. Gear retraction can use the manual's 29-crank sequence or an automatic handle animation. A free-castering tailwheel has authentic and simplified settings.

The simulator also offers optional navigation equipment. Its later WTT support names the GTN650; the earlier feature-list reference to a GTN750 conflicts with the FAQ and is retained as a documentation discrepancy.

Spring tabs and blowback flaps

The manual describes manual primary controls with aileron spring tabs and three-axis trim. Flaps can reach about 50 degrees below 93 knots, reducing to 15 degrees at 150 knots; deployment is prohibited above 170 knots. The landing gear fully retracts, with a 135-knot gear reference.

Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat

The Hellcat began as a proposed improvement to Grumman's Wildcat before developing into a larger fighter. Its first prototype flew in June 1942, and the Navy accepted the first production F6F-3 in January 1943. The F6F-5 followed in mid-1944.

FlyingIron's F6F-5 manual describes manual primary controls, aileron spring tabs and trim on all three axes. Hydraulic blowback changes flap position with airspeed.

The radio has a separate switch from the EFB display

The captain’s EFB phone controls radio interaction. Its display switch is separate from the Radio On/Off switch, so hiding the phone can leave the radios operating.

Some historical cockpit equipment is inoperative

The guide identifies old-style navigation and other omitted functions as inoperative. Unanimated controls should be treated as INOP, rather than assumed to have an undocumented function.
