FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

Ilyushin Il-18D ↗Research-based aircraft background

Ilyushin Il-18D

The Il-18D described in Nemeth's technical reference uses four AI-20 turboprops, retractable landing gear and electric flaps. Its elevator control is mechanically linked with a loading spring; the aileron runs combine rods and cables.

The simulation is released for MSFS 2024. The technical PDF describes trim and an AP-6E autopilot, while a separate cockpit document identifies the instrument and control layout.

JMB VL-3 Evolution ↗Research-based aircraft background

JMB VL-3 Evolution

The VL-3 originated with Aveko and continued under JMB Aircraft. Its composite low-wing airframe and enclosed side-by-side two-seat cabin belong to the European ultralight and light-aircraft market.

The Evolution programme has offered different engines, landing gear and cockpit equipment over time. Simulator product descriptions identify the configuration represented by each package.

Central stick and spring trim

The manual describes Teleflex push-pull primary controls operated from a common central stick. Cable-operated elevator trim loads springs against a friction lock; nose-up trim raises the elevator. The electric flaps have their own actuation, separate from the manual primary controls.

J160 and J170 package context

Wing and weight distinguish the J160 and J170. Option A and Option B denote avionics choices. The archived AFM identifies v2.0.0, while the product page lists 1.5.6; those are retained as separate document and product versions.

Jabiru J160 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Jabiru J160

The J160 is a strut-braced high-wing aircraft with fixed tricycle landing gear and two seats, intended for training and recreation. Its Jabiru 2200 four-cylinder engine accompanies electrically operated flaps.

IRIS's shared J160/J170 manual describes a common central stick and Teleflex push-pull primary controls. The J160 and J170 differ in wing and weight; the package offers Option A and Option B avionics arrangements.

Control runs and elevator trim

A common central stick operates Teleflex push-pull primary controls. Elevator trim uses a cable to load springs against a friction lock, with nose-up selection raising the elevator. The manual describes the J160 and J170 together while retaining their wing and weight distinctions.

The IRIS package

The product page identifies the J160/J170 package for MSFS 2020. Its published 1.5.6 product version and the manual's v2.0.0 label describe different parts of the documentation record.
