FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

REP for Just Flight Arrow aircraft · SimCoders · X-Plane 11 · X-Plane 12

The normally aspirated REP requires the X-Plane 12 Arrow

SimCoders explicitly requires Just Flight’s X-Plane 12 Arrow III for this enhancement. It excludes both the Turbo Arrow and the older X-Plane 11 Arrow. Documented additions include a custom IO-360 engine model, automatic gear extension, an interactive walkaround and a maintenance hangar with persistent aircraft condition.

The Turbo Arrow REP has a different version requirement

The separate Turbo Arrow enhancement requires Just Flight’s older X-Plane 11 base aircraft; SimCoders explicitly excludes its newer X-Plane 12 counterpart. Its TSIO-360 simulation includes turbo lag, interactions between engine controls, selectable fixed or automatic wastegates, and maintenance options for oil, plugs and exhaust equipment.

Piper PA-28 family

Piper built the Cherokee family around an all-metal low-wing airframe, an unpressurised cabin and a single piston engine. Entry is through a right-side door reached from the wing. Engines, wing shapes and landing gear changed across the range.

Warrior, Arrow, Turbo Arrow and Dakota models use different configurations. Fixed or retractable gear and normally aspirated or turbocharged engines are described in each simulator product's manual.

Piper PA-28-236 Dakota ↗Research-based aircraft background

Piper PA-28-236 Dakota

The PA-28-236 Dakota combines the PA-28's low-wing, four-seat cabin with a six-cylinder engine and fixed tricycle gear. The family also includes the smaller Warrior and retractable-gear Arrow.

The Dakota retains the stabilator and single right-side cabin door. Its engine, loading and performance figures are specific to this version.

An expansion for the Carenado Navajo

SimCoders identifies Carenado’s X-Plane 11 PA-31 as the required base aircraft. The developer documents X-Plane 12 support from REP 4.7.0, including rain effects. Added features cover a custom piston-engine model, turbocharger behaviour, oxygen and vacuum systems, with an option for small differences between the two engines.

A twin whose condition carries into the next session

REP adds a walkaround, towing, a mass-and-balance tool and maintenance reporting. Its description says battery state and engine temperatures continue across sessions, with elapsed time affecting the next start. An optional economy system attaches virtual costs to fuel and repairs, and the preheater can remain active while the simulator is closed.

Piper PA-31 Navajo

Piper built the PA-31 Navajo for commuter, cargo and corporate transport, using a low wing, twin engines and tricycle gear. Production ran from 1967 to 1984, including licensed manufacture in Latin America. Versions differed in cabin layout and capability. Simulator enhancement packages identify the base aircraft they require.

The X-Plane 11 version exposes engine condition

The Just Flight/Thranda edition provides an engine popup showing fuel imbalance, pressures, temperatures, battery charge and plug-fouling or vapour-lock state. Its electrical breakers use X-Plane’s failure logic. Interactive checklists, saved panel state and a weight-and-balance manager accompany the conventional radio cockpit.
