FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

Diamond DA62 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Diamond DA62

The DA62 expanded Diamond's touring-aircraft range with a larger twin-engine cabin. Its long wing, slim engine nacelles and retractable landing gear follow the company's composite-airframe design language. Cabin seating depends on configuration, with arrangements extending beyond a conventional four-seat light aircraft.

Engine management and integrated avionics are central to the type's identity. Those systems also make it important to identify the specific simulator version: the exterior model alone does not establish how a developer has implemented the engine controls or cockpit functions.

Released product and variants

This freeware release is a functional interpretation of the Dorand G.20, which never flew. The simulated flying qualities are conceptual and are not presented as measured performance from the real prototype.

Dorand G.20 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Dorand G.20

René Dorand’s G.20 was an ambitious helicopter project developed around coaxial rotors and two Renault engines. The prototype survived the interruption of the Second World War and reached ground testing, but did not fly.

VSKYLABS’ Dorand D20 is a released freeware interpretation for X-Plane 12. It explores how the unusual design might have behaved, so the simulator’s flight characteristics are explicitly conceptual.

Dornier Do 31 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Dornier Do 31

An experimental jet transport designed for vertical takeoff and landing.

Microsoft lists Do 31 in the Aviator tier. Aviator includes the lower edition tiers. The simulator edition is recorded separately from the real aircraft’s development or certification status.

Two engines on one centreline

The November 2023 guide documents the MSFS 2020 Wal’s separate engine controls. It provides cockpit background; this older manual does not establish unchanged MSFS 2024 controls.

Choose cockpit starting or the wing-mounted crank

The guide offers cockpit starting controls and an alternative crank reached from the left wing. These reproduce different parts of starting the engines in the simulation.
