FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

The Cabina radio compass has two modes

MAN uses a manually set course. VOR requires the battery, radio master and a received NAV signal. The guide restricts this radio-compass feature to the Cabina variant.

Dornier Do J Wal

The Wal, German for whale, became an important Dornier flying-boat design. Its engines were arranged in a tractor-and-pusher pair, with one propeller facing forward and the other aft. The hull and stabilising side structures reflect its water-based transport role.

Civilian, military and long-distance expedition aircraft used the basic design. It offers an unusual comparison with later flying boats: two engines share the centreline rather than occupying separate wing nacelles, and the cockpit belongs to the early years of long-range aerial navigation.

Managing twelve engines in the simulator

The linked August 2023 guide explains the MSFS 2020 engine controls. It provides equipment background; this older manual does not establish unchanged MSFS 2024 controls.

The LOTSE panel controls the anchor and tug

The tug requires all engines off and wind below 10 knots. With tug operation enabled, separate knobs set towing speed and direction. The same panel controls the anchor.
