FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

Cockpit throttles depend on the engine-room clutches

The cockpit levers command groups 1–6 and 7–12. Only coupled engines respond there; an uncoupled engine requires its individual engine-room control.

Dornier Do X

Claude Dornier's Do X was conceived on a scale far beyond the light flying boats of its era. Completed in 1929, it combined a broad hull with a high wing and six tractor-and-pusher engine pairs. Its accommodation and public demonstrations reflected ambitions for large-scale air travel over water.

A separate flight engineer managed the twelve engines. The simulator manual describes how that crew role is represented for a single player.

Trim and ground configuration

Pitch trim moves the horizontal stabiliser. Inline Rotax engines, 35-inch tyres and a free-castering tailwheel define the represented configuration, with an optional Type 400A flight director.

DoubleEnder

The DoubleEnder configuration in Got Friends' manual places two Rotax engines on the same longitudinal line. It uses 35-inch tyres and a free-castering tailwheel. Pitch trim moves the horizontal stabiliser.

Its flap handle has an area-extension position that does not change flap angle and locks the spoilerons. The other positions are 0, 20, 40 and 60 degrees. Optional Type 400A flight-director equipment accompanies the cockpit.

The manual identifies its chosen engine and fuel installation

The simulated installation uses the twin-blower engine arrangement described in the manual. Additional cabin ferry-fuel tanks are excluded. These details apply to the package's twin-blower configuration.

Douglas C-47 Skytrain

The C-47 adapted the DC-3 airliner to military work, retaining the low wing, two radial engines and tailwheel configuration. Cargo handling and military equipment changed the aircraft's role. It became one of the major Allied transport types of the Second World War.

The Dakota name is familiar in British and Commonwealth service. A Waco cargo glider was often its partner, but remains a separate aircraft with its own controls. Some simulator packages include both the C-47 tug and Waco glider, each represented as a separate aircraft.

Automatic start can leave a manual reset to do

The manual explains that automatic start changes fuel and engine-control states. Returning to manual operation requires resetting the relevant controls. After automatic shutdown, displayed switch positions may no longer match the simulated state; resetting them or reloading the aircraft restores the intended starting setup.

Douglas DC-3

The DC-3 developed from Douglas's earlier DC-2 and sleeper-transport work. Its low-wing metal airframe, retractable main gear and two radial engines became a familiar sight on airline routes. Military derivatives expanded the design's influence during the Second World War.

Civilian survivors have carried passengers and freight with a wide range of later equipment. In simulation, a vintage cockpit with a Sperry system and a modernised navigation installation are different interpretations of that long life. Their manuals explain which period and equipment the virtual aircraft represents.
