FOR AIRCRAFT DEVELOPERS

Research aircraft and systems

Find aircraft background, systems descriptions and manuals for the aircraft you are researching. Each note keeps its source and version context close by.

Simulator manuals describe the developer’s implementation. Aircraft background is research-based; pilot accounts describe an individual’s experience. Coverage here is limited to the selected notes and linked resources, not the full contents of every manual.

Jabiru J160 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Jabiru J160

The J160 is a strut-braced high-wing aircraft with fixed tricycle landing gear and two seats, intended for training and recreation. Its Jabiru 2200 four-cylinder engine accompanies electrically operated flaps.

IRIS's shared J160/J170 manual describes a common central stick and Teleflex push-pull primary controls. The J160 and J170 differ in wing and weight; the package offers Option A and Option B avionics arrangements.

Jabiru J170

The J170 shares Jabiru's two-seat, strut-braced high-wing layout with the J160. Fixed tricycle gear, the Jabiru 2200 four-cylinder engine and electric flaps form the configuration described in IRIS's manual. Wing and weight differences identify the J170 within the pair.

The simulator's Option A and Option B refer to avionics arrangements. Both use the documented central-stick and push-pull control layout.

Junkers A50 Junior (modern) ↗Research-based aircraft background

Junkers A50 Junior (modern)

The modern A50 Junior revives the open tandem cockpits and corrugated-metal appearance of the 1929 Junkers design. It uses a Rotax 912iS engine and contemporary equipment. The developer's background records European ultralight approval in 2022, followed by US light sport approval.

VSKYLABS models this modern aircraft. Its X-Plane cockpit uses G1000-based displays in both seats; the real aircraft's described installation is Garmin G3X.

A radial engine identifies the announced recreation

Microsoft’s 2022 release identifies a Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-14B radial with a fixed-pitch two-blade propeller. That configuration belongs to the announced simulator recreation; historical F13s also used several inline engines.

Junkers JU 52 ↗Research-based aircraft background

Junkers JU 52

The Ju 52 began as a civil transport, with the three-engine Ju 52/3m becoming the familiar version. Fixed gear, a thick wing and corrugated skin accompanied airline and extensive military transport service.

Versions differed in engines, equipment and roles. The period cockpit includes a combined trim-and-flap control mechanism described in the simulator documentation.

The reconnaissance simulation

KwikFlight describes twin turboramjet engines with staged afterburners and TEB igniters. The package's period autopilot and flight director include Pitch, Mach/Speed Hold, Roll, Heading and Auto-Nav modes. A reconnaissance suite provides tactical-camera and electro-optical views, with simulated infrared modes.

The simulated stealth configuration

The product's Stealth mode changes both lights and rudder deflection. The developer also lists animated engine secondary intake vents, a crew-access ladder and an air-to-air refuelling point. These are described features of the Spirit package.

KwikFlight Spirit

KwikFlight's Spirit portrays a four-jet flying wing with retractable landing gear. Its simulator stealth mode retracts navigation and strobe lights and reduces rudder deflection. Animated secondary engine intakes, crew access and refuelling equipment accompany the flying-wing airframe.

Six independent multifunction displays provide navigation, system and flight information. The flight-management pages include radio tuning, calculated performance data and flight plans imported from the World Map.
